Ballroom e yōkoso

The manga museum was a fun experience! I haven't read very much manga before so it was cool to get some background on the history and also see the culture in action. It was fun to see people reading manga everywhere.

I asked a couple different people if they knew of a manga about dance and no one did off the top of their heads so I looked one up on Google. I found a couple but when I searched them in the museum's manga finder they didn't have any of them. So I read a different manga that seemed interesting to me. It was one that was written by a university student! It was fun to read because it had a story but the main character really likes to cook so sometimes it would just be explaining how to make delicious Japanese dishes. I thought it was a creative way to make a cook book fun.

However because I was unable to read a dance themed manga at the museum I decided to research and read part of one while at home. The one I decided to use was Welcome to the Ballroom. This is a manga about Fujiita Tatara who is an aimless middle schooler. He has no idea what he's going to do with his life when he meets this professional ballroom dancer. The dancer rides a motorcycle so Tatara thinks he is so cool and wants to be like him. Then Tatara joins ballroom dance classes. And I think the rest of the manga is just his journey to becoming a professional ballroom dancer. Ballroom can be a little intense and very competitive so I'm sure there is plenty of drama in Tatara's story.

Although the museum didn't seem to have the theme of manga I needed I was still very impressed that there is a manga that is solely about dance. I think it shows me how broad the audiences for manga are and that the writers themselves also have many different interests. It seems like a very welcoming and accommodating community that makes reading casually more fun!
