Ninja, the secret history
Ninjas have a lot of misconceptions surrounding them like their clothes, weapons and even use of magic. But real ninjas were totally different from these images people have associated with them. The ninjas were very secretive which lead to a lot of these rumors arising about them. however there is only one famous book that is a good source of their ancient practices. The bansenshukai (Many rives flow to the ocean) This book was written by Fujibayashi Yasutake and was considered very controversial because of the tactics. There are like no records of ninja. just some deaths that may have been associated with them. This scared the samurai and shogun, which is why in In 1579, Oda Nobunaga attacked Iga.(A place famous for supposedly having ninja.) when he won he forced the members of Iga to fight in his army which may have been the beginning of ninja being used for government espionage. There are two famous places nearby that have ninja. Koga and the previously mentioned Iga. Today these places have museums with artifacts and showcase on ninja techniques. they also have ninja houses which are known for their traps like pitfalls, doors, rotating walls, hidden stair cases, and more. The traps were not very complicated but ninjas actually did not like to fight head on, so these traps bought them time so they could quickly escape. Surprisingly, There are no records of ninja actually killing government officials. But there are many mysterious deaths in Japanese history that have been linked to ninja. Their secrecy, hidden techniques and lack of documents on them lead many to make stories about ninja which have been made more fantastical over time.
